When art meets community: How one mural transformed a building into a cultural landmark

SBF is driven by creating spaces where success flourishes – and sometimes that means thinking beyond traditional property management.

When artist Dolores Navarro, known professionally as “YUDA,” unveiled her latest masterpiece on SBF’s Tellus 1 property in Tranås, something remarkable happened. What started as a blank wall became a conversation starter, a piece of local history, and a testament to the power of thoughtful placemaking.

The Art of Community Building

“It’s incredible what art can do for the feeling of community,” reflects Sebastian Brandby, SBF’s Regional Manager. “Yuda has managed to capture a central part of Tranås history and engaged our tenants and local community with her fantastic painting.”

This wasn’t just about beautifying a building – it was about creating connection. From the moment Yuda began her work, curious tenants emerged from their apartments, drawn by the transformation happening before their eyes. The response? Overwhelmingly positive, with residents becoming enthusiastic supporters of the project.

Where History Meets Artistry

Yuda’s approach exemplifies the kind of thoughtful craftsmanship SBF values. Known for her powerful depictions of working women, she didn’t simply impose her vision on the property. Instead, she dove deep into Tranås’s rich industrial heritage, collaborating with the local library to uncover photographs from the area’s textile and fur industries.

The result is an artwork that feels both timeless and distinctly local – classical in its artistic style yet filled with intricate details that reward closer inspection. It’s exactly the kind of considered approach that transforms a simple building into a landmark.

Partnership That Works

The collaboration with Artscape, the renowned organization behind this project, demonstrates SBF’s commitment to meaningful partnerships. Since 2014, Artscape has created nearly 260 large-scale artworks across 47 Swedish municipalities, specializing in accessible cultural experiences that inspire future artists.

“From the first moment, curious tenants stuck out their heads, but there were only positive comments and everyone has been enormously helpful,” notes Daniel Wakeham, Artscape’s founder.

Creating Spaces for Success

Successful property management isn’t just about square footage and amenities – it’s about creating environments where communities can thrive. The Yuda mural at Tellus 1 exemplifies SBF’s philosophy: when you create space for culture, history, and human connection, everyone succeeds.
